Rabbi Avraham Shalem z”l had a brief but impactful role during the late 50’s and early 60’s, before the arrival of Rabbi Greenberg. His contribution is captured in Chapter 7 of our new book….
Rabbi William H. Greenberg invested 45 years of his life into our congregation. In the book, we have dedicated a special chapter to his legacy. Here is an excerpt from that chapter:

Rabbi Meyers, Hazak Uvarukh on the beautiful volume you prepared to celebrate Ezra Bessaroth’s history. This book is an important contribution to the history of the community, and perhaps as (or more) important, it lays a strong foundation for future generations of Ezra Bessaroth. If the younger generations will gain appreciation of all the hard work, idealism and self-sacrifice that went into the creation and development of the congregation, they will hopefully assume their own roles in ensuring the continuity and growth of the EB community. I am personally so very proud of my lifelong association with Ezra Bessaroth, and although our family lives so far from Seattle, our thoughts and prayers are always with your community. May you and the Ezra Bessaroth community go from strength to strength.
